Red face

1983 300CD with 300K

-Timing chain check and replace if necessary.
-Vacuum pump check, makes a squeking noise.
-Install Power steering pump filter, currently nothing in there but some kind of round ring that looks like it is made of some kind of compressed material.
-Install new trailing arm bushings.
-Install new engine mounts
-Install new trans mounts
-Install new sway bar bushings
-Change trans fluid and filter
-Fix oil leak, once I find it.
-Fix cruise control
-Fix antenna
-Install new speakers
-Install new thermostat
-Change all filters
-Fix body damage on fender, door and quarter panel from previous owner.
-Replace window seals.

Ummm, I think I am out of money now. Thats it, unless I win the lotto!

This winter I'm going to put new rockers and rear wheel wells on,
repair rust and damage to various body panels and maybe re-color my interior black..

I have a bit of a list, but I have a solid 2 month break from work to do it:
  1. *fixed* Injector return lines pour out fuel
  2. V-Belts Cracked
  3. CV Boots Cracked
  4. Tires Bad
  5. L Upper control arm bushing bad
  6. R Upper control arm bushing bad
  7. LT Upper ball joint bad
  8. R Lower ball joint bad
  9. L Lower ball joint bad
  10. *fixed* Turn Signals non-OP
  11. Hazard Switch broken
  12. A/C Compressor leaks
  13. Ignition switch failing
  14. tie rods bad (both)
  15. Steering shock bad
  16. Driveshaft center support bad
  17. Transmission mount broken
  18. *bummer* Axle boots cracked
  19. *bummer*R Axle boot seeping
  20. *bummer*Transmission front seal leak
  21. Shift linkage bushings worn
  22. *ignore* Lower oil pan dented
  23. *fixed* R Headlight lowbeem out
  24. Instrument cluster one light out
  25. Bead blast underside of hood, primer and hood pad.
  26. dash cap to hide the grand canyon.
  27. glove box door loose
  28. driver foot well no carpet, sides soaked in oil (I didn't do it)
We shall see how far I get. I figure one of two things: I will either love or hate this car when I am done, but at any rate I _will_ know everything about it.

Finish the two tank conversion so that I can keep running heated WVO in the winter. I start a new project right after Thanksgiving. Much closer this time. Instead of 500 miles each way it is 152 miles each way.

500 was nice because I could start it up with <1/4 tank of biodiesel/d2 mix, get it nice and hot, fill the rest with filtered WVO and take off on my trip. When I got close I could fill with biodiesel and D2. That would fill me up for the rest of the trip and for the weeks worth of driving. Then I could repeat the process for the trip home.

500 miles was enough to completely burn off the blend.

152 miles means I really need to go to a 2 tank system. I have the parts, I just need the time. The good news is that there will not be any 14+ hour filghts from Heck to ruin my trips. 2-1/2 hours by car! I love it! Plus $150 a week to cover fuel and up keep. Since my fuel is very little of that it leaves enough to fund improvements.

I need:
Swap out the o-ring on my in tank screen with a viton one. (Bought a bunch. The extras are for sale on my site, www.fryerpower.com)
Swap out the o-rings on my spin on filter with viton ones. (Again, extras are for sale on my site.)
Install two tank system
buy & install exhaust pyrometer
install boost gage
Install heat pad on hood
find the block heater and install new power cord
buy and install new stereo and speakers
fix some rust spots
clean out the mono wiper (does not work in fast)
remove ERG for testing (Kit is on the way.)
I bet that somewhere along the way I'm going to have to work on the turbocharger.
Finish wiring in the injection line heaters (They are installed on the lines, but not connected to switches/power.)
Install new instrument cluster. (Mileage on it is closer to true mileage of the car & odometer works. Original odometer says 187,000. Car really has about 232,000 on it.)
New motor/regulator for front passenger window (does not move at all)
New motor/regulator for back passenger window (moves slowly sometimes)
Someday I need to make the sunroof work again. It is closed and does not leak.

-Jim

This looks to be the biggest project (with the smallest payoff probably....)

Project 300D, the 240D Mutation.......

For the wagon, it really needs shifter bushings. Badly! And I fear the starter isn't going to make the winter. Any cold weather at all, even cool weather, and there is a huge delay from when I turn the key, until the starter decides to spin. Not a low voltage condition. And, I really need a blue leather or MB Tex seating surface for the drivers seat. If anybody runs across one at the yards, grab it for me......
Oh, and some driving.........

i am working on my 280e euro ex ralley car. preparing it for autocrossing. some rust repair, and just fixing all the mechanical things that are not yet right. the engine has been gone through and it runs fabulously. the tranny and rear end are fine too. i am seeking a lsd for it, and thicker anti sway bars.

She's going to a friends body shop for a complete restoration, will probably be there for most of the winter since I wont be driving it at all this winter.
Keeping the original paint color and replacing all of the faded chrome and emblems.
Cant wait for spring time to arrive...
