Cluster quit

This morning on my drive in to work all instruments except the clock quit working on my 1986 300 SDL. Car still ran and turn signals worked, But speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure and tempature gauges died. Any suggestions where to start when I get home tonight ?

Check fuses replace it even if it looks good just to test. Take off the access panel below and verify that your plug is plugged in. Check ground.

Go in the fuse box and replace fuse #6.

Clean the contacts at both ends before you install a new one.

While I agree its probably a fuse issue, that would not explain the cable driven speedometer also not working? Was that a mis statement?

Thanks everyone sounds like it's fuses first. Is #6 fuse in the fuse block under the hood or is their another one ?

Do you have the hooks to pull the cluster out? If so the problem may be the round plug on the drivers side of the cluster came loose.
I have a similar model. The round plug powers the gauges. Another plug attached directly behind the speedo, among other things, powers the cluster lights.
BTW, while the cluster is out, why not replace the bulbs that light up the cluster with halogen bulbs. I did and what an improvement!
I got my replacements at Auto Zone.

Halogens operate at a far higher temperature than equal sized incandescent bulbs, are you sure you're not melting your cluster?? I'd be careful....

Also, if they do indeed work ok/not melt things, where on earth did you find halogens that small and with that low of a wattage????
