Just did a search on the W116 and I think you are right. I will have to get a better look at it but I am pretty sure that you are right.
Thanks

...116s are prone to being severly ravaged by the rust worm. Inspect carefully under all the carpets, beneath the rear seat and in the trunk before committing.

Thanks for the tip

My brief exterior inspection showed no sign of rust, but will get more involved if the price is right. Hopefully it has been an AZ car it's whole life.

I also think it is a W116 - I think the last year was ok, when they switched back to domestic steel. Still, it's "aged", and should be checked for rust.

to be sure, look at the dash, and see if it has round air vents or square ones.

Hey, I'm in Phx

36th and Southern? Isn't that S. Phx, not Tempe?

Sounds like a rebadged 300D non turbo, 1977-1980 to me.

PM me with the exact location if you want me to go make a pos ID, I live in central Phx and work in the East Valley. Don't worry, I won't take the car, got a 300SD, 300D, Audi Quattro, and maybe a 250C to deal with now!

could be Phoenix

I believe the line for Phoenix/Tempe is right around there somewhere. It is somewhere across from Whitfield nursery, can't remember the exact cross street. I was going to go by tonight after work and see if anyone is around.
Forgot my camera but I will still take a look.
Really appreciate all the help.
