A/C moisture problem

I think.... Anyway, here's the rundown:

When I run the climate control in EC mode, the windows fog up furiously and the air in the cabin is humid and slightly moldy smelling. If I switch to any setting that uses the A/C the moisture clears out and all is well.
I have no desire to run the A/C in the winter. Seems a little... counterintuitive. Anyway, I'm theorizing that the heat exchanger box or whatever it's call is plugged up, not allowing the water to escape. Where are the drain holes?
I don't think it's the heater core since I'm not smelling or losing coolant. There doesn't seem to be a rainwater leak either.
Any ideas?

The AC/heater box drains to the exact center of the transmission hump underneath the dash. When you pull the lower panel under the driver's or passenger side knee bolster area, you'll see a foam tube that constitutes the drain pipe. Sometimes that's an entry port for mice and they may have clogged up your system.

However, if you run the car's heater for a significant time, maybe with the windows open, it should clear out the moisture. If it doesn't clear up, you may indeed have a heater core leak. I'm not sure all anti-freeze products smell like "anti-freeze".

I does sound like the AC drains may be plugged. You may be able to clear the drain line from under the car, using something soft (like weed-wacker line) so you don't damage the evaporator.

Personally, I never use the EC setting because the AC does such a nice job of removing the humidity inside the car, that's how it's designed to work. If the drain is OK, try running the AC for a while and see if you can get rid of the existing moisture.

I have a 79 300TD, it should be similar to mine.
Under the battery tray is a small rubber line that has a flexi connector on it, maybe put a little pipe cleaner inside it and wiggle it around to let the moisture flow out.
under the passenger side on the firewall is the three lines out of the evaporator. small is high side line, large is low side line, and the middle size line is the drain.
Good luck.

I think you got it on the money there. My wife was complaining about something dripping on her foot while she was driving.
