Steering Gearbox for 1987 300D Turbo

Hi,

I'm going to replace the Steering gearbox on my 1987 300D turbo (200K).
I have a huge play (about 30mm) on the steering wheel and it drives me nuts. I replaced the drag link with the dumper already. I also tried to adjust the gearbox itself but I did not get any reduction of the play.

I have used gearbox that was pulled from another 124 Mercedes with 100K miles on. I don't have any info about the model or year. I'm attaching pictures of it. Can you help me out here? Is this going to fit my car?

If yes, any tips or procedure?
What type of fluid should I use?

Thanks

Be sure that your gearbox is really worn and that you've turned the adjustment screw the correct direction. It is counter intuitive, if I remember, you have to back the screw out to tighten the gears. A gearbox with 200k miles on it should still have some adjustment. Mine is well beyond that in miles and is really nice and tight after being adjusted.

Did you rebuild the idler arm? Took a large amount of play out of my steering.

I was hoping I could adjust it, but trust me, my box is worn out and after close inspection it looks like it is leaking - so it has to go.

Is the one on the picture going to fit my car?
Are there any tricky steps involving the replacement?
What kind of steering fluid should I use?

Yes. therefore, the problem is evidently on the steering box. I want to replace it since I have one with only 100K miles.
