change battery, clock now works....

Just curious, but is there some kind of protection circuit on the clock that keeps it from running down a weak battery? Replaced a seven year old battery recently and the clock is now keeping time again.

thanks

Maybe the ground on the battery had corroded just enough to cause a problem. Could be a finiky use too.

Probably a little more voltage all the time in your system overall now with the new battery was just enough to get the clock working. If your old battery had a bad celll or any reason to have a one or two volt lower average performance it is possible . Seven years of battery life is getting up there.

cool....when a car fixes itself i never ask questions....just in case i upset it...sometimes you just have to accept these little gifts from stutggart with the good grace with which your car bestows them

I'm always leery of stuff like that. Anything that can fix itself can also break itself and usually when you are least ready for it. Granted that the clock is not a major safety device, if you have one thing with a flaky connection, you may have others.

I think it has to do more with the clock mechanics than anything else. Mine works fine after I fumble with it for a while, everytime I remove my battery or reset it. Sometimes it locks up, sometimes it works for months at a time.

The locking always occurs when I cut the power supply, no matter how good is the battery.
