What model? What year and how many miles? Blue smoke at start up, or blue smoke all the time? How much? Take the oil cap off the valve cover while running and see how much crap shoots out. If it is hard to put the cap back on because of the pressure build up as you close off the opening, it is a sign of engine wear. Jim

Please do not use "but" to start a sentence. It's as "wrong" as using all caps. It really shouldn't matter how someone types on a forum. I hope you're not searching these boards and correcting everyones grammar and spelling. |

Blue smoke= burning oil.
Possible culprits: Turbo inlet/exhaust seals, valve stem seals, oil control rings on piston, excessive oil from blow-by/crankcase vent, or leaking headgasket. |

In a car:
Blue smoke=burning lots of oil=not good In a human: Blue skin=low hemoglobin=cyanosis=not good |

I would stay away from a blue smoker, unless the interrior is good, and other mechanical bits look good, then I would *only* offer bottom dollar.
It's a parts car (IMHO). Quote:

If it is a 3.5 litre take a walk. On second thought run. You really have to post the model and year to really get meaningful answers. Car may be desirable or cheap because of it. The more you post the more suggestions will be gained. There are quite a few things that can cause the blue smoke. On some models sometimes it is possible and practical to fix. On others there is just no way basically. What the members want to deal with are things like mint 85 300sd with smoking problem for 100.00. Then you will get so many replies asking where this car is it will stun you. You can even pm me in caps with the place and telephone number it's really okay.

The main point of the original post is about blue smoke, not grammar or spelling. I guess sometime soon people will start to yell at people because they swear they can hear their accent through their typing, and they pronounced a word wrong through the typing. It's insane, look past the obvious (all caps, misspelled words) and give people a hand with the questions they ask. This biodiesel/wvo/svo/vo solution will never reach global proportions, or national at that, if we don't work together. So what, he wrote in all caps. Big deal! Move on, and get over it.

No, you can not use "but" or "and" for the beginning of a sentence, even if you make it "look right". Maybe to some eyes, all caps do look right. Let's see: engineers, drafters, blueprinters, graphic designers, etc. All of those people in those fields view it as not only accepted, but the standard. It's pretty damn ****ty to jump on someone for their use of all caps, when less than half of anyone on here can structure a sentence, doubtful even a paragraph, nor spell to save their life.
Again, get over it people and move on. If you don't want to help someone because their use of all caps, well just don't help, and please refrain yourself from correcting them. |

We need more info. There are thousands of diesels out there. Are we talking about a Cummins 5.9? MTU 16V2000? Yanmar? VW TDI?
