Nope, for sheer functionality, just disconnect the vac line and plug it.

But, many of the problems with transmission shifting are due to leaks inside the black box where the 3-2 valves live. That's why I encourage folks to disconnect and remove all of that plumbing. It provides a clean look under the hood and it also eliminates the EGR system as a source of vacuum leaks.

I also sell a kit to completely eliminate the EGR valve itself.........really cleans up the underhood enviroment. The SD has one clean looking setup. I even had the machinist tap a 3/4" NPT thread in the manifold to accept a stainless set screw. It eliminates the copper plate and the clamp.

Brian,
I plan to follow your suggestion this weekend and get rid of the EGR vacuum lines as you descirbe. My '81 300 SD appears to be set up just as listed in your description. Any reason not to do it on my car or anything I should look out for in the process?

Thank you

Nope, no reason at all. The '81 SD is identical to the W123 as discussed above.
