There are actually 3 different types. The early ones with the flat tip, the later ones that we all have, and the last gen. of the OM616 had funny ones with an offset ball to promote a better burn. It looks like the replacement ones that he posted photos of are a variant of the last gen. prechamber.

Thats an OM602/3 head. The angled prechambers came around in 1989.

I then put the injectors and lines back in. I have driven it about 50 miles so far and it runs good.

When all this happened, I had brought the injectors to a place to have them checked, and to rebuild the bad one. They basically said they all were out of spec, so I had them all replaced. I looked at them, but I can't tell what brand they are. They are made in Germany and had a symbol on them that looked like UH. I am not sure if they were the ones I brought to them, or different ones, but they looked new. I was hoping it would have a noticable improvement in power, but it doesn't. It is better but there are a few hills around here on the interstate that I can barely keep it at 65, if that.

I just wish I knew what caused the prechamber to self destruct.
If the Injector Spray Nozzles does not spary in the direction it is supposed to and the area of the combution chamber it is supposed it can start to erode/burn through the metal over time.
Also if the Pintel/Spary Nozzle seat is worn the Fuel tend to dribble out before the Pop Pressure is reached also causing the fuel not to be atomized well. If the Raw Fuel gets on the parts it burns close to the meatal and also erodes it in that area.
If the Injector Pop Pressures are off enought that the Fuel not atomizing well (a stream of fuel instead of a spray of fuel) the bulk of the Fuel burns later than it is supposed to causing a knock (pressure wave happening at the wrong time).

Did you happen to check the Timing Chain Stretch while it was apart?
Also maybe IP re-timing would help restore some power.

Forced I know its from the later engine but I could not find a photo of the OM616 truck version that OM616 posted in the performance section. I was just hoping we had a lead on where to get them cheap, as the photo of the replacement one in the beginning of the thread looks like the up rated one.

Tomnik found the part number for the angled 616 PC.

"part number of 616 angled PC:

616 010 0752

Tom "

I have looked and the only source I can find is MB .

I want to get one or two to start my PC work. If anyone knows of a good place to get them.....

It's been so long ago, I can't remember where I purchased them. I don't drive it at all anymore and am thinking of selling it since I drive the 300D all the time now.

Is there any chance you recall, and can post functional links to these two pictures?
