Injector Hose
 

Pulled in the driveway this morning to find that while driving I had been leaking fuel. The nipple on the back of the 5th injector is bare:eek:

To be clear, on this 1981 300 SD I can follow the fuel line from the top of the spin on fuel filter, to the first injector and then small sections of line between each subsequent injector. The hose is missing from the back of the last injector. For the life of me I cannot see a loose piece of hose flopping around. Where is it attached to once it leave the last injector:?:stupid:

I've tried the Search function and Braingears, but I haven't found my answer. I'll keep searching.

Its terminated with a plug at that point.

Order 1 meter of new hose from the "buy parts" link above and replace it all.

Using the Search function I eventually found what I was looking for. I read that the piece of hose I'm missing goes no where but is plugged.

I have some spare hose that I can put on the nipple but what should I use to plug the end of the hose?:confused:

The plug is some outrageous price like $10 though...you may want to try a screw.

Or cut the hose a little long, fold it in half and clamp it down. Not much pressure there.

If the hose is looking bad I have a replacement kit that uses viton hose.

Thanks guys. I'll see what I can "Engineer.":D All of the hose looks pliable and in good shape, but I'll add it to the list I'm putting together for Phil.

I replaced my injector hoses last night, but didn't bother changing the plugged hose. If you PM me your address I'll throw the extra inch long piece of hose in an envelope and send it your way.

I called my wife and asked her to pick me up a foot of 1/8" fuel line at an auto parts store on her way home. The only place she goes by on the way home is Advanced (Discount) Auto Parts. She hands the clerk a piece of paper on which she wrote down my request verbatim: "One foot of 1/8 inch fuel line." The clerk hands her a piece of black hose and rings her up. My wife comes home and hands it to me, it's stamped "3/16". Way too big.

I don't blame my wife at all, she barely knows a wrench from a dip stick. I cannot believe the stupidity of the parts clerk to think that this hose would work. As I pointed out to my wife, it's 50% larger than what she asked the clerk for.

Clerk probably thought is would just be clamped down, so no big deal to go between 1/8 and 1/4.:confused: Any time I hear "That should be good enough" when it comes to cars, I do not go to that store again.

I wish my list was only $100.00 :( I have an Excell spreadsheet that totals nearly $1300 worth of small items. Rebuild CCU and Cruise control mod are the two biggest ones. Don't mean to hi-jack. Must be nice.

Special hose, not plain 1/8" fuel line....
 

As I understand it, that is a special cloth covered hose......replaced all of mine a few weeks back.....they were brittle, and most probably original.....but, I read somewhere that the cloth covering helps the hose to deal with heat.....

I had asked my wife to pick up the 1/8" hose because this is what was on all of the injectors. The stuff that is there presently looks good and seems to be holding up well, but I did notice a piece had printing on it that said "Not for injector line use.":eek:
My further research has indeed revealed that it's not the correct hose. I'm not sure if I should cuss the P.O. or maybe the P.O.'s indy:wacko:

the stamping means not for pressure injector use... can't handle more than 10 or so psi, the return lines are under almost no pressure, so not to worry.
search under my name for return line and you will find what I use...

I guess the lawn mower fuel line is all the same size? Available at Home Depot or just at mower shops? How has it held up for you?

I plan to find the right hose, but it's good to know what alternatives are available in a pinch.
