83 300 TD Fuel Tank Replacement Wanted

Have not had sucess in patching a hole in a 300 TD Diesel fuel tank Small leak at the botton near the fuel supply port. Used J-R Stick Weld after cleaning and sanding the area. Leak is the same spot. MB dealer part is cost prohivitive, so any one parting a 123 would I would be greatful. I am located in New Jersey but can travel.

Sand, clean with acetone and try Epoxy SuperMend. If it's a small hole, put in a screw with a rubber washer. If the area is large and flat, screw on a plate with a rubber gasket. I've also watched a person weld a fuel tank. The trick is to run the exhaust from a car into the tank while welding so it can't explode.

That might work in a pinch, but it isn't as reliable or safe as the commonly-accepted methods of purging with CO2 (or another gas that won't support combustion) or having the tank cleaned at a radiator shop.
