Differential Swap - '87 W124 to T124
Like to put the 2.65:1 diff from an '87 300D into a '91 300TE. I know the suspension is different, but will the diff swap from the sedan to the wagon? If not, how about the gearset?

Check diameter of rubber disc for prop. shaft. There is a few different ones. Also check diameter of drive shaft flange. ASD axles is a bit wider than those whitout. (Driveshafts wont fit between non ASD and ASd axels.)
It is possible to exchange the complete rear axle, only difference between W and T-models is the strut? on which the spring and schock is mounted on. Also, because the speed is measured on the gearbox, it wont be right if you change rear axle. You also need to change speedometer. / Kjell

Thanks.
If it works out, the engine/tranny will be going in the wagon also, and likely the speedometer with the glowplug light and other warning light changes. I just couldn't keep the gasser diff gearing with the diesel. - Jeff 190DT and projects |

Pretty sure it will swap without major problems, just make sure to verify the ratio & axles are the same, as Kjell mentioned. See this spreadsheet for more info:
