92 300D Turbo mono valve or ?

Drove short term on freeway and street. Parked car and was listening to the radio. I noticed steam coming out around the battery area.

I looked at the temperature - It was a bit below the red (very hot). I have never seen it so high. I opened the hood and noticed steam and coolant coming out next to the battery. I went to eat.

After eating I filled the reservoir with water. I came home without a problem.

I took the battery out. The hoses look great. The mono valve looks like the bottom section was leaking. I have been up and down the street with the AC on, the heater on, the freeway and I can NOT get it to run hot again.

Does the mono valve leak intermittently?

Help..... I can not get it to repeat again. Do not wish to have it happen on the road.

Thank you

Nick

What ever you do have the cooling system pressure tested for leaks!

Went to have a pressure check NO leaks GRrrrrrrr

There are no leaks. There was a leak last night. I have a picture so that you can see.

Went on freeway with the AC on, the heat on, the defrost on and there are no problems.

The radiator guy said that a system leaks or it does not.

Has anyone ever has this issue come up?

Thank you

That monovalve doesn't look new, so I'd check it when it's cooling down after a drive. Just start wiggling things around, all the hoses and connectors. You'll probably find something leaking. BTW, I've replaced the entire cooling system in my 87, not all at once, but gradually. The parts just get old, and with all the vibration, break.

Is is the original one. I can not get it to happen again!

You can see in the picture that there was a leak at one time. I have had a pressure check, moved the mono valve all around, ran the car hard, turned the heat on and then turned the air conditioner on. I could not get it to leak again.

I finally gave up tiring to make this happen again. It has been working without a problem. I am keeping my eye on the temperature but everything is working well. This is an odd one.

Thank you

Nick
