Smile fuel question

the 1980 300d that i purchased was out of diesel i found out....

so refilled the tank and drove toward fresno with a full tank...which should get me there....

2 issues that i noticed....

i shut down like i was out of gas in glendale....fill up and put 7 gallons in

climbing the grape vine took forever .....

looks like i have to start out in slope and then climb to drive...is that an issue????
