1983 240d rear end whines

At different speeds I get a whining noise from the rear end. Is there a special gear oil I can change to that will help this noise, and can the clearance be changed? Comments welcome!

Next time have your wife ride in the front instead of the rear!

the rear ends on these cars are known to whine as it is old age and improper oil changes for the pumpkin.. which reminds me i need to change mine
