I decided to change head on 300dt 87 and took off the cracked head what I have done a few times before. The difference this time is that I turned the crankshaft several times. Now I wander when assembling back if injection
pump should be set 15 deg. before the indicator inside the pump window or 180 deg. further away. (for every 2 full 360 deg on crankshaft the inj. pump turns only once), or does it matter at all as long as crank. marker is on 0 deg. and cam is at the marker.
I will appreciate the answer. The Forum is full of info and it was helpful to me many times before.

I don't know the answer for sure to this on a diesel engine. But logically the injection pump and cam should turn over the same amount of times as they have the same # of actions/full turn(s) of the crank.

So I would think if the crank is zeroed and the injection pump is zeroed how do we know when the injection event will occur and we want to make sure that it happens when that intake valve is activated, right?


I don't know much of anything but I'd love to... somebody please help him
