Green VAc tube on 1983 240D (pic)

I've looked at the FSM and posts on this site, but I still haven't been able to figure out what the green tube is for. It goes from the engine compartment thoruhg the firewall to lands unknown. The link at the end of the post is a picture of it.

I'm having door locking problems, that why I ask. Maybe that sucker needs to be plugged up or sucked on, or something! (the pic is old, don't worry about the massive lack of vacuum lines - I've fixed that - including unblocking it for some reason I can't remember)

Thanks chaps, and chapettes

Ignore the connections on top of the valve cover. They are for the EGR, most people remove them. I believe yellow= door locks, Green = climate control, and brown = shutoff

Just took at look at mine. The green line does not appear to go any further back than the front of the car. I found the yellow lines under the carpets at the rear but no sign of the green so I'm guessing it's something located up front. Maybe under the dash? But a 240D doesn't have the vacume operated climate control. I'd pull the kick panels under the dash and take a look up there and see if you can locate it.

The green could be the vacuum dump/vent for the tranny vacuum control valve. My 124 has a plastic little fuel filter on it instead of just dumping it, so I copied that and bought a $2 filter and stuck that on the dump side of the VCV on my 123.

thanks for the replies, I think you're right - it doesn't go anywhere.

Not true. There are some 240Ds out there with ACC.

The green line goes is the supply to the ACC. You'll have to pull the underdash covers to find it. It should go through the firewall and connect to you climate contorl unit.

Was ACC ever a factory option on a 240D? Mine has the green line but no ACC.

Your AC line ( green) SHOULD be in working order, if the car is maintained in its original condition. By what you have said, the PO hacked up the car. You have a vacuum element for the fresh air in the dash. Even on the manual 240D system.
The valves on top of the valve cover. One is for EGR. The other does effect transmission shift.
Go here and look at the pictures specific to the 240D for the dash internals. The marron colored car is the 240D the red colored car pictures are for a
300TD, not yours

http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/W123Evaporator

On all W123's, Mercedes used this vacuum color code concept.

Brown- Shutoff.
Green- AC control
Yellow- Door lock

Picture 96 shows the AC element in the 240D.

The vacuum system for the 240D was discussed here.

vaccuum line closed off-300td

Automatic climate control (ACC) was never offered in the US on the 240D. But AC ( air conditioning) was standard.
The green line in your 240D is for the AC element I specified above. Your AC system DOES use vacuum.

Are you sure it was standard. My 240 doesn't have AC.

Was told they all were. But yes, you seem to have a US non AC model. I could be wrong.
