85 300TD wont shut down

OK gents a little help please. I did an oil chage on my 85 300TD and now I cant shut it down with the key and the shifts are very abrupt. I have done a search and not much showed up. I have checked all the vacuum connections even to the ignition switch and they all look intact......I know it is probably a vacuum issue but I cannot figure out where to start with my mity-vac. It sure looks like a simple circuit but it isn't making sense to me. Is there a trouble shooting guide somewhere ? Thanks for any boot in the butt in the right direction.

Definately a vacuum issue. Trace that brown vacuum line that runs from the shut off on the IP back over to the driver's wheel well. Make sure it is connected and not broken. Sounds like you have already done this, but I mentioned it anyway.

I always seem to bump the brown line out of the rubber connector over by the wheel well.

You must have disconnected a vacuum line going to the shut off switch. Follow the vacuum line from the back of the IP to see if it is unhooked. Alternatively, put your mity vac on the shut off valve, pull a vacuum and see if you can shut off the engine. If you can, you know the shut off valve is working correctly and there is a vacuum delivery problem to that valve. It's almost certainly a problem in the vicinity of where you did the work for the oil change.

If from the top, nothing seems out of order. Check the vacuum line to the transmission. Pulling out the filter cover, you may have dislodged the vacuum line to the transmission at the modulator.

first things first. do you have vacuume from the pump? check the line that goes to the brake booster at the first tee with the mityvac and see for sure. then just follow the lines. the ignition vac lines are very loose, they come off easily. you sound like you have checked the lines themselves, but make sure they physically are pushed into place.

Found it ! I post this in hopes that it may help someone in the future. Check the brake booster line. Mine (85 300 TD) has two nipples and one had broken off clean at the hard plastic part of the main vacuum line to the brake booster and vacuum pump. Symptoms were wouldn't shut down with the key and hard abrupt shifts. Man these cars are a brain teaser.

Been there

had that broken before. Pretty expensive little hose too. Congrats on getting it fixed.
