Under 90K mile 1980 300SD (W116) in nice shape...what's it worth?
A dealer nearby has a nice silver W116 300SD supposedly with under 90k miles and records to support it. No rust, elderly 1 owner car...cosmettically looks to be about a 8.5+ but I don't know about the mechanicals as I haven't seen it yet...any thoughts here on what a one owner 90K W116 with all service records should bring?

I have the same car
I would think it would be at least $4,500 or more. I guess it really depends on how good the engine is. Where is the car from? I paid $1500 for mine with 176k.

Taxes, we don't pay no stinkin' taxes! NH = NO SALES TAX on ANYTHING! (oh, and did I forget to mention we don't have a state income tax either) :) |
WOW.........no state taxes.....the only way we do that here is to take our money to the laundry....it always comes out nice and clean that way.....
you see we have to drive MB's...we need the big trunks to carry the people who find out about or laundry mat:rifle: I wouldn't mind living up there except it is cold....i don't do cold. but no taxes sure must be nice.. Quote:

The prices on the nice conditioned 116 300SD's are really volitile.
I mentioned on a previous thread the 1980 with under 90k on the odometer that went for around $9500 on Ebay back in the spring. It seems like the demand for these old cars and hence their price goes up and down with fuel prices. |
geography
i'm pretty good with geography especially traveling up and down the coast in the boat with 4 gps repeaters on the dash but i didnt think ohio was near nashua nh now lee nh on the other hand.....:silly:

Now, the particular W116 I was asking about is not far from here which is a plus, but the ebay listing is a great way to gauge the market for it since the dealer who is selling can see what it would likely go for there. I'm planning on printing it out to bring with me to negotiate with if the car is one I find I want to pursue. |
Doc, I think if you're going to get into diesels then the w116 300SD is an excellent choice. They only imported a couple thousand into the USA over roughly an 18 month or 2 yr span.
On the other hand pre-73 4-spd 220D appear to be skyrocketing in value, especially with manual features including sunroof. About the worst thing you can say about the 300SD is it's plagued with electric junk - windows and heat controls. And it kinda sucks that many 300SD's have no sunroof at all. |

As a comparison, I recently sold my 1984 300SD with 222k miles for $6k.

So Marty, Did you ever look at this car? Where was it? BTW, my recent battery drain problem was, in fact a defective glow relay. Put a new one in and battery stays strong.
