Yes W211's are amazing. Love they way they look as well, MB scored a home run with them in my book.

Before I bought our 1999 E300 my wife and I went to the MB dealership in Fort Wyane. I told the salesman that I was looking for a W210 diesel. He informed me that they did not have any, but that a low mileage 1999 coming in. The saelsman all but insisted that I drive a new E320CDI. My wife was terrified because I quickly got 'perma grin' from ear to ear. Man, what power!! I am quite confident that from a take off standpoint a E320CDI can humiliate many gassers on the market and I would like to try.:D

If it didn't sound like a diesel, I would have little use for it. Well, then there is the issue of the $.......:o :o

Diesel Giant 11-19-2006 04:56 PM

Yes they are a little pricey.

Hatterasguy 11-19-2006 05:25 PM

I like quite cars, its easier to talk on the phone.

The prices that people are asking for used CDI's is nuts IMHO. I have seen cars with 50k miles on them go for darn near $40k. Screw that just cough up the extra $10k-$12k for a new one.

My 1985 300D was $34,000 when new. Taking inflation into consideration theses E320CDI's should cost more. There is far more stuff packed in these cars. If Mercedes was still grueling over the details and quality the way they used to do these cars would probably start no less than $70,000.

Right now, it's cheaper to buy a ML320CDI than an E320 BlueTec.

I wouldn't have a ML.

I'd have an R CDI though. They look funny, but the interior is fantastic.

I tried last week in Holland a E200 CDI. All the perks of the big american version with a nice 2Liter engine (BTW in the stripped version they are around $32000). I really wished they were available here (32 grand i can afford 52 that beyond my means!)

dieselsteve 11-19-2006 09:11 PM

At idle the 320CDI sounds like diesel, not old school diesel like my 1992 300SD, More VW TDI like, the common rail and direct injection really have made a big difference in noise.

FYI - the GL is coming out in Diesel too.

I know I see a million ML's around to, everyone has one. But they are just so blah, and the first generation were total POS's. If MB did make a junker it was the original ML's, I have seen so many that are totaly shot. People just drive them as junkers with an inch of road crap caked on them, holes in the bumpers, smoking, interior falling apart, CE light forever on. Very sad.:(

Around here, they're just another mini-van. I doubt most of them are being properly maintained. I'm not very interested in anything assembled in the U.S. anyway. Besides, it would violate my "no check engine light rule."
