well since we have had some amazing weather here on the coast lately i took the 240D out yesterday and when i returned home and parked it in the driveway it left a very nice puddle of diesel fuel on the driveway (needless to say the wife was not happy)... it seems to be coming from the rear of the car and i can see the axle is wet with fuel and it is dripping on the exhaust so im hoping it is just a fuel line and not a hole in the tank which seems unlikely since i dont smell any fuel in the trunk seems odd that this started right after the switch to ULSD fuel but anyway... are the fuel lines easy to access from under the car or do i need to remove the tank (dont really want to but i was planning on doing it sometime next year for cleaning so it is not a really big deal)

the lines under the tank are pretty easy to get to, i was amazed...115 chasis or 123?

Check the little line that goes from the tank to the steel line.
It could also be the rubber o-ring on the in tank screen. I have those in viton for sale at my website. If you are never going to run biodiesel or WVO then the regular buna/nitrile o-ring that you can get from Phil will be fine. If you are going to run biodiesel or WVO then you should replace it with a viton o-ring.

well i put it up on ramps to investigate a little more and this is what i found... it looks like the upper hose in the picture is at fault... anyone know what size it is so when i replace it i done have to take it off and bring it with me?

The hose is 5/16 inch. However, it's probably the fuel line. It's clamped to the body up in there, and the rubber pads that hold it in the clamp also collect salt and road grime, and things get rusty. I found I had a leak in both lines!

just figured my problem out with the help of this thread. My fuel cap was loose and fuel was sloshing out and leaking down the drain... onto my lawn

Fell off the WVO bandwagon when people started trying to charge $2.50 a gallon for dirty vegetable oil.

It would be nice to have the new hose ready to go on when you remove the old one. It is also nice to have a helper standing by, so you don't get stuck having to hold your finger over the hose nipple to keep your fuel tank from emptying itself in your driveway.

And don't expect that old hose to come off without complaint.

ULSD is eating up old fuel hoses with regularity.

The supply line out of the tank has a crimped on fitting if it has never been changed or replaced with an OEM fuel line. But you can cut the crimp off and pull the hose off. There is a regular hose barb underneath, that you can clamp on a new piece of hose.

Where did the clamps for the Axle boots come from? Were they in a kit or were they bought seperately? There is a few post were people complain about not having a tool to tighten up the boot clamps the clamps on this on look good to me.

The leaking hose appears to be on the return line.

Those aren't original lines since both are hose clamped. The original output line was crimped. I did a write up not to long ago explaining how to do this replacement without getting showered with diesel fuel. Run your tank low. Then get about 5' of fuel line. Hook it to your return line under the hood and idle the engine, pumping the return fuel into a 5 gallon fuel container. When the engine stalls, the tank is empty. Start this when you first get up in the morning and drink a cup of coffee as your engine pumps the tank out for you. Replace the line. Pour the fuel from the container back into the fuel tank. Start up, drive away.

That it is. I guess I wasn't looking close enough and it was early.
But they weren't clamped with the gear style clamps. They had MB stamped band style clamps.
