Zigged instead of zagging

Hi All, New to group just missed a deer and sheared a pole in my 1980 300 td. Need major front end parts including R. lower control arm? Any advice out there It ran fine w/203K on her. Dont even know if I feel like pulling the engine /Trans, to sell. Would it be worth it to fix it. I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. Thanks da King

Learned my lesson..........

Thanks Tom am new to this stuff, film is being developed. I should be able to get the cd pic on here, lacking deep computer skills. Had a closer look today, the tele-pole just missed the right side front subframe and peeled back the lower control arm.Looking fwd. from the rear tires I may be luckey as it still appears "straight'. A local MB guy says he can hook me up w/the tin. The hatch,2 rear and drivers still shut nicely, the r. pass is being pinched by the frt. fender. I'm cautiously optimistic IF I can get her in my buddies garage for a day with an air rachet and torch should make quick work of the autopsy, Thanks, Da King

if the subframe is bent a frame shop can straighten that too.

We have the same problem here. Those pesky telephone poles keep jumping out into the way of peoples cars. With a little good luck and management you should get back on the road. Lots of cheap and close to free sheet metal for 123s around. The reason I posted is you may or not be aware that the later front fenders are far easier to remove than the older 123s. They almost used to glue them on. So if you are going to try to remove a fender off a shell try to get a newer one early 80s up to end of production but check. The cheap aftermarket fenders are so thin most users do not like them. . Also have a look to see if their is any evidence of the guide rod being driven back as well. If it is a frame check may be manditory unless you can pull or jack the mount back into it's proper position. Comprehensive covers deer hits here as well but you did not actually contact the deer or did you? Kind of hard to tell with that crumpled metal. I also think there are no increased premiums for comprehensive claims.

Tom, as usual you hit the nail on the head. Some pulling shops do excellent work. Some not. It is up to the individual to find out who is pretty good in their area. It really pays to ask around and find out. In my area the best by far is also the cheapest. They have one older gentleman pulling and pushing cars back into shape each and every day. Probably been doing just this for 40 years. It is a full time occupation for him. The pure constant experience plus paying attention makes him faster than most and a lot better. Thats why he is busy all the time. He does not have time for rework because something is not right. He will get it right the first time 99 percent of the time and usually miss nothing. His experience also makes him quite fast so the bills are reasonable. Actually he functions by combined constant experience at a high level. There are places around here that never get it right or very seldom as well. Funny that they charge so much more. Their are at least 10 other frame/body jigs in our area. I would not let most of them pull or straighten my tie. . When buying a service since my paranoia at being ripped off by poor quality or price comes into play I shop and check carefully .By asking around if I do not already know. Still get caught sometimes. Unavoidable it seems.

#s 20 and 21 in this drawing.
Actually it is #21 but #20 is mounted to the body and might
need replacement to.

Magic Bus Ressurection..............................

Got a $300 quote from the frame man. Am told I'll get ALL parts necessary firewall forward for $350. Will probably make decision over weekend. The shock tower was pushed aft and up, there is a little ripple where the guide rod attaches and as you view the front of the left front subframe it's tweaked slightly inboard. Any comments, suggestions or pertinent warnings to stop this madness will be considered, Da King
