Glow Plug Relay shock.....

I know my glow plug relay is bad in my '83 240d...... I've got one on order, and in the mean time, I pull the relay module out from it's case and use a plastic spring clamp to MAKE the relay contact and she starts right up......

My question is has anyone (besides me) ever pulled the wires out of the 4-wire control connector (in the course of troubleshooting) and accidentlly touched the violet wire to the black/red wire? It turns the starter over!!!! I had the key on, and never tried it with the key out, but I was pretty impressed........ If you hold them together long enough, it'll start................

man.......it's past my bedtime.

makes sense, that wire senses the starter voltage and deenergizes the glow cycle... unless there was a diode to prevent reversal of voltage... it would start, until the key out let vacume build up and kill the engine... unless you remove the brown line from the stop diaphram.... oops.
of course without the key there would be no way to steer the car...unless... nevermind.
