All factory procedures for all OM60x engines use "dry" methods that require tools. However, I believe you can still use the old 'wet' methods (and 'wet' specs) on an OM60x if you want to. I much prefer the dry methods, especially the A-B light box. It makes it soooo fast and easy. I bet I can check and adjust timing on my 603 in less than 30 minutes... maybe faster.

The lock tool or the A-B light box? If you got the lock tool, did you get OEM or aftermarket? (Just curious.)

Lock tool for the IP. Borrowed AB deal, I'm about to buy one of them too.

You know of a good price on one? Only thing I've found is close to $400 . Can't justify it when I'd probably only use it once per owned MB.

They're about $225 at the dealer...

Update - car starts up fine now.

Bad deals - Throttle linkage broke, don't ya love plastic ends? So I have a set coming from the dealer. They're maybe $6 combined.

Also, I have a fuel leak at No 4 on the pump. Maybe it's a delivery valve seal? Idle is a bit rough.

Right on, will have to check with my local dealer. Glad to hear it's running ok.

Last time I did a major job on the 350 I made so many trips there that the guys would just start laughing as they saw me come across the showroom floor.

Could you explain what you did before you got it to starting up normal again? As I read you had set your timing at 14 deg. ATDC per FSM using AB lights which should have been correct. What mods have you made since, just fine tuning?

I've VERY relieved that it was nothing major also!

Yeah I am at that point now here too lol Hoses, gaskets, seals, etc. Just minor junk I've had to pick up.

I did set the crank at 14°. Locked the IP with the tool, don't even waste your time without it. WELL worth the $25. Then I just rotated the thing with the AB light installed and it's ready to roll.

Entire purpose to remove the IP was to reseal it, and thus far looks like it worked! I think the o-ring to the block was the biggest leak of them all. I also wanted to replace the plastic fuel lines, which I did as well as some misc gaskets.

I tweaked the full load stop and replaced some broken linkage while I was in there. Now the DV seals are up.

UPDATE -

Replaced all six hard IP lines, removed my fuel leaks. Also got all those little plastic deals all on to prevent the lines from rubbing. Starts right up like it's supposed to...

but

The No 1 injector is leaking at the crush washer. So, that 40¢ part kept me from driving it. Tomorrow I'll have six more (just in case), and HOPEFULLY will take the SDL out for a drive again... Then I can start to play with my new to me 240D.

Got the leak fixed and all is well, hopefully this thread will help down the line. I have a trans issue of banging that I need to sort, curious if it's part of a cranked full load stop or just something odd I am not seeing.

yeah...don't drive it too long like that. Mine ended up shaking the reverse pressure springs loose which cost me the use of the gear. Found a mess of 20 bent up springs when I opened it up. Most definitely a vacuum problem though.

If the trans is dead it's dead, but this JUST started to happen.
