Fuel Problem ?!? Car will not start.
Have browsed and bought parts here before but luckily never needed to post until now......
Driving to work , my car suddenly stopped being able to receive fuel, so I pulled over, left the car and got a ride to work. Thinking it might be a biodiesel gelling problem (had B 70 in the tank), I waited for a warmer day but it still wouldn't start. Change the fuel filter because it was totally gunked up, still nothing. Blew through hose to tank and did hear some bubbling. Heated the fuel lines.......still, nothing. Any suggestions? 300 TD Last edited by jaime; 11-24-2006 at 01:45 PM. Reason: add something |

There are two fuel filters. Did you change both? Try running it from diesel in a container with a hose running directly to the lift pump and see if that works. If it does it tells you the problem is likely between the lift pump and the tank.

Yes, the other filter looked fine (and was full of fuel). We will be running diesel into it from a container later today. Let's see how that works. Could there really be debris like that gunking up the lines?

Is there any chance you have bad fuel? I would loosen the line at the injector and see if you are getting fuel. If you have fuel you might neglect to consider the possibiliy of bad fuel. It is unlikely but does happen from time to time. There is also the possibility the bio stuff has loosened up a lot of old stuff in the tank and blocked the in tank filter. How long have you been using the bio stuff?

on and off, for two years now and mostly b100. Never had a fuel issue before, not even in the winter. What would you do if it were blocking up the tank filter?

Car will not start
You might want to check your lift pump. My 240D was running fine. I drove it to the airport and parked it for 5 days. When I got back it would not start. After towing to the shop, the problem turned out to be a bad lift pump.

If the tank filter were obstructed you could starve for fuel. There is a test in the archives were you remove a line up front. Fuel by gravity should come through. Although you will have to have a certain amount of fuel in the tank. The description is in the archives. Just look for tank filter or screen. .

You could siphon fuel from a bucket directly into the primary filter to eliminate the tank strainer, of course it wouldn't hurt to pull that strainer regardless.
