Without the passenger side mirror, of course

That's a W116.

Heat might cost you a little more but if it's as you describe, $3000 is more than a fair deal.

Do a search on restoring heat in the 116 cars with automatic climate control (ACC). If it turns out to be the heater control valve, there are aftermarket units that cost a little more but are more robust than the original unit with plastic housing.

Did you discuss the possibility of the seller sharing repair costs?

climate control servo

No heat probably means a bad climate control servo, which costs $400 and up to fix. The W116's (and early W123's) have very complicated and troublesome climate control systems (engineered by Chrysler, if I'm not mistaken), which tend to break often and expensively. Probably the worst aspect of that car.

123?

What am I missing here? Wasn't that a picture of a 123?
Having owned several 300's I was going to say that your car sounded like $5,000-7,500 good fair price. People try to get 9-10 for these, and I don't think they get it. $3,000 is a really good price, and you could probably make a couple thousand dollars off buying and selling.

cool set of giveaways thanks sixto!
I can usually tell, but it's always been "hmm that seems to be a 116" it just looks different. 116 is slimmer, from the front and the side.

116 vs 123

Well, I was wrong about that. My euro 300d has white inner lights, but they're smaller like the yellow fog lights of the USA version, and I guess I never noticed this other version. And it also has different bumpers than a USA car. Is the 116 significantly different: wheelbase, weight, suspension, engines, like that? or is it a sheetmetal difference?

Your Euro 300D has US headlights from the federalization process unless you have the Euro style headlights that look like US headlights but with one flush rectangular lens the size of a US headlight door. Talk about a run-on sentence

Buy that car...

"Guys, the European Delivery Plan originated to address the desire of US Army and Air Force officers and enlisted men to buy cars overseas while on duty in Germany and then stick Uncle Sam with the shipping charges, skip duty and other import fees."

The other little known aspect of this deal was that the US service folks did not have to deal with ANY normal waiting lists. They were allowed to buy anything that was already built and step inline in front of virtually anyone on the list and waiting.

I own a 300sd that looks just like the one in the picture link. 109,000 miles & rust free..... Turning radius is unbelievable; I swear it can make a U-turn shorter than it's own length. (My Miata is shamed.)
I can't believe some of you are mixing up the cute little compact w123 with the large 'S' body w116 ; shame shame shame! (You have heard about the mighty 6.9 haven't you?)
Plan on doing tinkering and learning everything about the car inside & out. The search function at this site will be your familiar friend & partner. The staus your wife/girlfriend holds now will become second place to the "beast".
I just got my climate control working pefectly by downloading wiring diagrams, vacuum diagrams, chrysler climate control workshop manual, buying an a/c amplifier and checking out most everything.
I have replaced dash lights, done valve adjustments, fixed water leaks, backward adjusted the steering box, restuffed the seats, etc.....I don't know how people owned vintage Mercedes without this site.
This car grows on you even more with time;... gets same or better fuel milage than a 300d and feels peppier in town and just flies down the highway.

If you are not mechanicaly inclined or don't want to learn or don't like to tinker....get the Hell outta this site, never come back, and pretend you never saw this car. Otherwise life as you now know it will be over for both you and your loved ones...for better or worse.

I agree with Mr Kenny and I think its a good price on a sleeper classic. IMO, it has real old-world style and class that the W126's lack. For some reason it seems a lot peppier and tighter than our W123 300D. Give it a good home, there aren't many of these left.

Ok so I bought the car and I love it!! Took it up the the local benz dealership to get a key made and I was so proud to have that car. Two salesmen, a service advisor, and some guy from the garage came out to look at it. They were amazed at its condition. I will post some picks as soon as I can. Now here is the problem I have. After I left the dealership I filled it up with #2 drove it home and parked it outside cause I didn't have room yet in my garage. I live in Kansas City and the tempatures have been very low with wind chills below zero. It didn't even get out of the 20's today. I didn't get the car in the garage the night I brought it home and now it won't start. I have started the car from it being cold without a problem but not this cold. I can only assume that the low temps are keeping it from firing. I'm up for any and all suggestion short off waiting for spring and warmer temps.

Power Service in the tank to stop gelling. Check the glow plugs. Plug it in if it has a block heater.
In very cold weather you may need to keep the starter engaged while it runs on a cylinder or two until the rest start firing.
