Thermostat Question

I had the pleasure of finding out that the PO, or his mechanic left the t-stat out. The rubber gasket was there still, but it has a split in it.

I paid $24.00 for one from NAPA, and found it to be the 92C one instead of the 80C. My concern is that this t-stat was one of those expensive made in China ones, but being made in China I am concerned about it's quality. The car does warm up fast though. I could not find the rubber gasket at NAPA or any McParts

My question is, does the t-stat fit inside the rubber gasket?

I tried to install it like that, but it would not go back into the housing that way.

Since the car is my daily driver, I had to put the t-stat in, gasket next, and seal with RTV until I can get a new and proper gasket delivered.

Thanks!

The thermostat slips in between the inside and outside edge of the seal. A slight amount of vaseline should help you install it. They are rather tight. Make sure the side with the spring/pot is facing the engine not the radiator. BTW, Mercedes parts counter cost for that part with a new seal is 22-24 bucks. I would run the 80c unless you are way way up north.

I live in Texas. I'll leave the 92c one in until a new one arrives. We are supposed to get a nice blast of cold air tomorrow and Thursday.

Thanks for the info!
