If I could get a piece of threaded rod the proper size, about $20-25ish shipped.

depending on how you'd like it made. Add more for brass or alumn. CRS is usually what I find.

on that note, anyone know the thread size?

You'll hog out the rod?

The thread is M24 x ??. I measured 4mm over 4 peaks so that would be a pitch of 1.33. I've never heard of that pitch. Is there a better/correct way to measure?

pitch gage; handy to have. about $5.

Yes, I'll hog the rod out (drill, bore) using a split-nut, as to not mar the threads; and cut a square at the top (kinda like a pipe cap)

I thought about that but the ALDA has less than 5mm of threads. I can see how a pitch gauge could be a little off. If there's no 1.33mm pitch in the gauge then problem solved

Maybe it's M24 x 1.5 just to put it in common numbers.

Won't PVC work? Get an inch of 3/4" sched 40, run an M24 x 1.5 die on one end and put a cap on the other end. Finger tight should be fine but you can file some wrench flats.

metal would be so much cooler.

Nylon would even be cool; as you could dye it...
