1987 300TD - How to remove dashboard
 
This question isn't "diesel specific" I expect it's the same for any 124 bodied car ??

I'd like to replace my badly cracked dashboard and have located a good one.

Can anyone point me to a step-by-step guide online....for R&Ring the dashboard.....

It seems like member sublettm did a 124 dash removal and made some pictures, try searching on his name. Fundamentally, they're all similar (123, 126 etc) but the 126 is probably closer to the 124 in bits and widgits.

I did a partial write-up on the 126 dash. See it here: 126 dash removal And, member dmorrison has an excellent write=up on removing a 123 dash.

All that should get you going.

1) The procedure is in the FSM. I wouldn't start this project without that in hand. It's online in PDF format if you don't have the print manuals.

2) If you're going to replace the dash, you could upgrade to the 1990+ style with wood trim... don't forget to get the matching glovebox door as well.

3) The dashes are NOT all the same color. Make sure you get the correct color!

4) While the dash is removed, I would VERY STRONGLY recommend replacing all the climate control vacuum pods. It's almost guaranteed that one or more have failed, if they are all original. A detailed writeup on that is located here.

FSM instuctions while nice to have, aren't completely necessary and should be taken with a grain of salt.
Dunno for sure about the 124 but, the 126 manual contains a lot of ambiguities. Many of the photos are for the Euro model (manual a/c controls etc) and older (617-engined 126) and barely apply to the SDL even though it's technically a 126.

On the W124, the FSM procedure is pretty much dead on, and quite helpful. I'd definitely recommend reading it before starting.

I've never touched a W126 so I can't comment on that model (or FSM)!
