Back seat with headrests for TDT

Anyone aware of any euro back seats with headrests available for a 123 TDT Wagon ('84) in Palomino? I have the non-headrest version and I would like to find the euro types. I assume they are relatively easy to swap.

Thanks,
Mark

My wifes old '84T had rear head rests. It also had the third rear seat. Maybe the head rests were an option??

The headrests usually came with the third seat to keep the third seat passenger from whiplash and also to keep the them from knocking heads with the passengers in the regular back seat.

Did any of the sedans ever come with headrests?

Used to see them in Germany all the time. You can install the receiver in the second row seat of the sedan or wagon. The kit should be available from the dealer and just get 2 or three headrests.

My 82TD had rear headrests. Well, it didn't *have* them when I bought it. I got some used ones from a W126.

Could you lift them up a little and take a pic of where they go into the seat?
Did you take any pics with seat back cover off?

Do you mean that non-headrest back seats can be modified by installing the receivers? How about removing the receivers from another car....my local salvage yard has a TDT in with blue MBTex...it has the receivers for headrests but no headrests. (and yes, this car does have the third seat) If I could remove the receivers only and install in my car, I would then only need to search for headrests....

Anyone ever pull apart these seats to see what it looks like in there and if this is doable?

Thanks,

Mark

My first 300TD was a non 3rd seat car, its the one I still own. I bought and owned, for a short time, a 300TD with the third row, BUT no second seat headrests.
Took the 3rd seat out of the second 300TD and put it in the first. But did not have the second row headrests. Bought 3 headrests and got the receiver kit from the Mercedes dealer. It may still be available, Did this in 1994

Now that I have confused everyone, here's the bottom line.

Go to the car at the junk dealer. Bring a drill. Open the second seat tops. IN there you will see a 6-8 inch long receiver for the headrest poles (6 total). Drill out the rivets holding the receivers in position and take all 6 of them home. Try to get the plastic molding at the top of the seat material. They may be hard to get off, but you can always buy them at the dealer if necessary.
Also on the back of the bottom of the second seat are 6 more hole trim pieces to store the headrests while the second seat is folded down ( fold the second row seat bottom forward into the stowed position to find these). These are not mandatory, but it provides a nice place to keep the headrests when not in use. No receivers are used in the storage position. They just slide into the seat bottom cavity.
Take pictures of the mounting at the junk dealer for reference.

At home pull down the seat material and install the receivers. Cut holes in the top of the material on the seat to install the hole trim pieces. Get 3 headrests and install them.
Consider getting the rear seatbelt assemblies off the junk yard car. ESPECIALLY the side trim panels that have openings in the side. You can paint them to match your interior.

Consider buying the 3rd seat at the junk dealer. You can have the MB tex material replace to match the color in your car.

Dave

PS Also Mr. Phelps, if you choose to take the mission. You are required to take photos of the entire job, so you can post the it on the forum.

My 84 TD has the holes for the headrests in the back seats, and no rear seat. The headrests are MIA, since the PO used to drive it with the seats down 99% of the time, and if the front seats are all the way back, the headrests interfere.

Not his, but a similar installation on mine with 2 kits ordered from Germany and w126 headrests replaced with w123 cushions (retaining the bent rods):

Edit: dealer didn't include 4 nuts that supposedly came with the kit, so I had to use zipties. Already have the nuts, saving it for when I remove the seats again.

My TD is long gone and what pictures I did have were lost in a harddrive crash.

The seats already had the holes and chrome trim for headrests.
