How to access evaporator and heater core compartment??

I have not attempted it yet but can someone who has tell me how to get in to the heater core and evap area? What I want to do is clean it somehow just because its probably accumulated a bit of dirt over the last 20+ years. I know the evap has a drain but the heater core most likely does not.

Would this be possible to do? Thanks.

Other than pulling the dash and removing ans dissasembling the heater/evap assy, the only access is by removing the blower. Not much room to work going in that way and you cannot reach the entire evaporator either.

I decided to do this and planned ahead for one day to disassemble,
second day to clean and assemble.

It was worth it. It helps if you have a carport or garage (lots of parts).

I used the "slacker's" method; it was OK: 126 evaporator cleaned (and minty fresh ;))

I like it!!! For sure will be the next project. I guess one way to figure out how much dirt might be in there is to empty your shop vac first then chk later how much it sucked out of there.... at least the large particles.

Still trying to visualize how you got the hose in there and the spray nozzle you used. I wonder if the spray nozzle of a portable weed sprayer would work? Just have to figure out how to attach it to a garden hose.

I also wonder if this process would clean the heater core at the same time while cleaning the evap.

Is the evap laying flat horizontally, vertically or at an angle?
