I prefer the brass model by Craftsman.

They both serve the same purpose, but from what I've heard, the brass one will outlast the plastic.

Have this one from Harbor Freight, it has done everything I need.

I have had it for 12 years.

Check youor local AutoZone. They have a MityVac brand for sale but it is not in packaging that says Mityvac, it says "OEM" or something like that. It is a plastic pump but has a lifetime warranty and is sufficient enough for the occasional user like most of us. It is only $25 and should last a long time if it is not mis-treated.

I like the harbor freight one so far...$20,,can't beat that. And should I get some kind of vacuum gauge while i'm at it? I've been reading up a lot on this and so far have only been able to do a visual inspection to try to figure out the problem.

The Mity-Vac can double as a vacuum gauge too, just connect it to the vacuum source and watch the guage.

I have both the brass Craftsman, and the Harbor Freight one. They appear identical in every way. I'd go for the HF.
