Purging Lines on OM603, after Frybrid Install
Im trying to bleed my fuel system after frybrid install.
My question is how should I bleed the system. I added a bunch of fuel line, solenoid valves, and re-ordered the system. I am trying to pull a vaccuum from just before lift pump (which is now the last thing in system before IP) all the way back to where fuel soft line meets the hard line on the frame rail in the engine bay. Its not able to hold a vacuum, which I think means it will let air into fuel system. Im not sure how much air can be leaked into fuel system before the engine stalls. To go from 20" HG to zero takes about 20 or 30 sec. I think the leak is somehow in the diesel fuel filter housing. Can anybody offer suggestions how to purge air from lines on my OM603 (1987 300D Turbo) ?? |
Mighty Vac
a2t,
1.'Check ALL the fuel line clamps (twice). 2.'Using a "Mighty Vac" or it's equivalent "pull" the fuel from the newly sealed lines up to the "lift" pump.---quickly re-attach the line and "bleed" the system by loosening the caps on the individual injector lines whilst you "crank" the engine. |
Do you really need to bleed the system?
After changing fuel filters on the 300SDL, I used to floor the accelerator and crank the engine. It took about ten seconds but always started. Keep it floored and it will eventually start. I suspect most of that delay was filling up the large (spin-on) fuel filter with diesel. Of course, this was a standard OM603 which ran on diesel not WVO. Not sure how much extra you've plumbed into the stock system. Neal |
Thanks for replies.
I found 1 leak - the threads on the return hose banjo fitting on diesel fuel filter housing were leaking. Replaced crush washers and put sealant on threads. Now we pull vacuum on diesel side and it holds. On to the WVO side... |
