240D downpipe replacement.
hello, i am replacing the hole-ridden downpipe in my 240D, and have come across a bit of a problem. how do you remove the pipe from the manifold? do you cut the pipe, cut the bolts off, remove the bolts...? i'm lost, it's cold out, and i'd like to have it done for tomorrow:rolleyes:

Just speaking from general auto experience, you can first try to get the bolts loose, and if that doesn't work, cut them.
A dose of PB Blaster (or some such penetrating oil) will help a lot, and it works better if allowed to sit overnight. Ken300D |
very good chance you can undo the bolts on a benz.
not likely on many other brands though. tom w |
If you cannot get the bolts out use heat. If no torch set go to a muffler shop to have them take the bolts out. Do not cut the bolts as I think they thread into the manifold if I remember. The pipe to manifold does not use a gasket either. Metal to metal seal.

i could have sworn they are thru bolts.
