Cruise Control Wierdness

When I bought the car, it was noted that the CC was inoperable. It was, up until today...I accidentally hit Accelerate as I was getting ready for a right turn.

The accelerator actually dropped under my foot. I thought, COOL!!! Well, turns out, only the Accelerate worked, as it would not hold the setting.

So, I guess I know that the mechanics under the hood are good, and I should look at the amplifier.

What do you think?

The amp is the place to start, I think. A possible victim of the dreaded cold solder syndrome. A pain to remove, then check the back of the PC board for seperated solders. I just pulled one from the local pick'n'pull, haven't pulled the kick panel to swap out yet - just something else I haven't gotten around to. "Have fun in your garage"

I broke the transister board trying to remove the "cruise amp" on my 124.......my 107 wasn't any easier.........and when you do replace the "cruise amp" hope that that is what it was........cruise amps are way too expensive, why you could buy a 25" LCD TV, for the same price!

Thanks for the info! This morning on the way to work, no cruise action at all, just like when I bought my car...I'll be having some garage fun soon!

The intermittent nature points to a cold solder, on a 123 it's under the dash in a silver box, you'll have to pry the board out, and go from there. Enjoy your garage. '82 300D, '83 300SD, '84 300CD

It could also be the speed sensor attached the the back of the speedometer, check the 2 terminals and see if you can read a few ohms between them. Mine works good now that I replaced it.
