This was for full serve, actually. New Jersey has been all full serve but I've heard talk of allowing to self serve. Their cheap diesel must be a pretty big "draw", the attendant must have *heard* my SD's engine idle as I approached. He motioned me right to the Diesel pump.

The amazing thing is, the price difference between different municipalities within a few miles of each other. Part of this disparity must be local willingness to pay extra for the convenience of the station down the street.

By way of example, it's possible to pay $1.899 for Mobil diesel, and this is less than 20 miles west of the $1.359 Citgo station. Different state, but the expensive Mobil is in a wealthy neighborhood and is the only diesel for a good distance. Do they charge $1.899 because they CAN? Do they count on local Benz diesel owners who are unwilling or unable to travel far? The Citgo is along a main road with plenty of competition, three or four stations on each side within a few miles, and it's a busy road.

Or, is there a huge difference between the taxes added by various towns, townships, counties, and states? Does anyone have any data on this? I'd be interested to see any info compiled to date.

Price update

Greetings All,

We are still getting the deep thing without lube here in Missouri. Cheap unleaded goes for $1.70 a gallon and diesel is at $1.49 We still get paid half of what the rest of the country gets but get it in the backside when it comes to fuel. Can't believe the state wants to raise the gas tax another $.15 They need to pull their heads out and wake up.

In central FLA, I was paying about 1.599 +/- for diesel and about 1.399-1.499 for regular unleaded. Now, diesel is down around 1.499 at the regular Chevron and Hess stations I use and Regular NoLead is about 1.699... the wife and in-laws, who thought I was nuts back in Feb. when I bought the Benz, now think I'm a rocket scientist!!
