1991 350 SDL cold crank skip

Car now has 86,000+ miles, the car is excellent after getting the bugs out. I bought car earlier this year and it has had a skip and sometimes smoke when cranked cold after sitting overnight. It wasn't too bad during the warmer months, since colder weather has arrived there is a remarkable differnce, it is much worse with more smoke. It will only last for one to two minutes, after this the car runs perfect, no smoke, no skip. Should I replace the injectors to begin with?
I ran several whole bottles of Red Line through it.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Frank

I would make sure all the glow plugs are in proper working order before I messed with the injectors.

Please do the following:

Get in vehicle and turn key to #2 position.

Use a watch and wait 25 seconds.

Turn key to #3 position and start the engine.

Report back with your results.

I posted this problem months ago and followed your advise about letting the plugs stay on longer and there wasn't any improvement. I also have replaced the glow plugs, the ones that came out looked new.
The symptons have gotten much worse with the winter temps.
Thanks

Diesel purge will help. Whether temporarily or more permanently though I don't know. I'd lean towards temporarily.

Should the manufacturers recommendations be followed with regard to the amount to use?
Thanks

Have you confirmed that the relay is functioning and that you are getting voltage to the plugs?

Your symptoms sound exactly like a malfunctioning glow plug system. However, I'd be doubtful if it would start if the relay was malfunctioning.

The dealership did check and said there wasn't a problem with conductivity to the glow plugs.
They have suggested bad injector or pump.

Well, I don't trust any dealership these days. The quality of the staff is so poor that there's no telling what you've got.

Get youself a volt/ohmmeter and check the voltage yourself..........
