Ever talk to your car, maybe give it a carrot? (serious)

The other day I had to travel up to Massachusetts for work and I took my trusty 85 300D.
You spend maybe 24 hours total in a 25 year old car with nearly half a million on its frame and it serves you faithfully and you kind of develop a spiritual relationship with it.
During the trip ,it shelters you from the cold, and it buffers you from those huge 20 ton trucks doing 100 mph. You feel safe as they come blundering by. Not to mention that the enginet still has that peppy kick a 300D has when its well tuned. It starts faithfully every time on cold mornings and you are reminded driving is still risky business when you see relatively new cars broken down on the side of the Cross Island Expressway where there is barely no side to the road( dangerous!!!)
Its a friend that asks for nothing in return except some quiet companionship , a scratch on the belly, maybe a peek under the hood once in a while. It doesn't talk back or give guff and it isnt selfish or calculating & it won't stab you in the back and you don't have to keep your guard up...
My trusty 85 300D takes me up soaring across the Verrazzano and up through Staten Island (and you get a glimpse of the lights of Manhattan )and across on the Long Island ferry and on the way back you come through Western Massachusetts and Connecticutt and the Adirondock Mountains.
Once in a while, you pull over and take a nap and leave the motor running for heat...This car has a soul and it takes care of you and protects you. Not one failure mechanically or electrical for almost a thousand miles....
This thing is like your best buddy or your favorite dog......

I feel the same way about my car. Thats why I could never sell it. 43k/3.5 years so far and its never once left me stranded or in danger, I've gone hundreds of miles in the heaviest of snow storms or rain downpours, and it kept me warm and comfy the whole way. Starts every time, whether it be -5F or 100F outside. Replace a part here and there, keep it maintained, thats all it asks of me, and I gladly do it because I know it will reward me with countless thousands more comfortable and safe miles well into the future.

If something bad ever happens to my car I will be crushed for a looong while.

Talking to my car is useless. It does not understand English and I don't speak German.

I don't know all that much german, but I know enough to say things to my car. I say things in german to it most anytime I talk to it.

I thought these things liked wurst and saurkraut!

I only talk, out loud, to my car when other people are in the car. They get a kick out of it and think I'm slightly touched in the head, at times.

You need to drive a W126, they can read your mind!

Yes, back a couple years ago when she was sucking down hundreds of dollars worth of parts on a monthly bases I called her a lot of things. None of them very nice.

Now we have an under standing. For example this year I say you pampered b**** if you don't break anything expensive until the fall I will paint you. If you break something no paint job you can go **** yourself.

The SDL is very much a pre-Madonna, and if I pay to much attention to other things will suck down a $300+ part to get my attention. I dare not spend to much time on the SD, dear god if she saw that I'd be replacing the engine or something. But she expects and gets nothing but the best, money is no object with her, whatever it costs.

The SD on the other hand is a good car, it runs without any trouble and never fails to serve me well. Wish the SDL could be more like my SD.

I promised her I would do an early oil change if she got me through the winter,,, she started stumbling at startup and I knew the GP's would die... they did. Now I don't have the time to do that oil change until it is needed... maybe I'll flush the antifreeze and put in the G05 at the same time... ahh, if Only I had more time...

I talk to my 300d often, lol most of the time its swearing when something breaks, or the constant urging when trying to get onto the freeway and the dick behind u doesnt wanna slow down so u have to punch it, but i feel like it takes cars of me because i take care of it, and I mean what other cars made in the early 80's do u still see on the road and still running strong. Very few. These cars were built to last, and I love taking care of mine. :-)

I guess Regenbogen, an '82, would be pre-Madonna, but not by much. . .borderline; built right at the start of the music video age.

But back to topic, this MB of mine, she's very much a Prima Donna.

Automobile Karma - This I believe: that every car remembers exactly how it's been treated. Every MB I've ever owned, even identical models, have had their own personality. When buying a car i always ask the PO for stories of trips he made and where the car has been.

On the flipside, knew of one case where a malicious Ford turned on its owner and made his life miserable. This happened to a friend of mine, all kinds of weird stuff like brakes failing and steering going haywire. It was like the Ford was trying to kill him.

i talk to my 240 all the time. I just love the car. Alot of people make fun of me for caring so much. they also say that im sinking money into a crap pile. and i say, look at my car compaired to yours. yours will not be on the road in another 10 years, while mine definenetly will. mines 24 years old and has no rust, yours is only 7 and already has rust on the inside of the door I have only cursed at it a couple times, mainly in the begining when i first started driving it and was driving in the end of winter and the GP's were out and i went threw a starter . thats when i relized it needed mechanical TLC. But it has never ever even thought of leaving me stranded.

I'd like to talk to my car too, but the only German phases I know all contain the word 'Schieza'.
