front calipers
can anyone tell which front calipers you have if all the lettering is corroded off, I know my rears are bendix, would this mean I have bendix fronts or ate, I have no clue and wish to order repair kits.
Thanks Peter 1984 300d turbo 269k mi. |
You probably have Bendix, yet PO may have gone with ATE. You can go to a site and see pics of both, ***************. You might also be able to wire brush off some crud and see what you've got. Good luck. "have fun in your garage"

Another way you might figure out which is which, is by looking for the brake pads for yours. Figure out what shape your pad, and it's backing plate mounting points, and then find a picture that matches yours. I'm not sure that will help, but some of the vendors do have the correct part pictures up on them, due to the different caliper problem on our cars.

bendix retainer pins have a cotter pin like arrangement holding it in. ate uses a expanding thing on the end to hold it in. also ate uses a flat plate with bent metal to hold tension on the pads, bendix uses a wire spring.

bendix retaining pins have hairpins the hold them in. the pins in the ate are a press fit and you just drive them out with a drift or a 16p nail. the pads are the same. the brands are fully interchangable functionally.
