2) Can anyone recommend a good basic tutorial for the steering and suspension elements? It's a huge gap in my automotive knowledge. I need the basics, with lots of pretty pictures... "This is a tie rod. This is an upper control arm..." Ideally it would include pictures of good and damaged items for comparison.

Thanks DeiselGiant for putting this tie rod tutorial together!
There has to be a site somewhere that list the diffrent types of suspension and how they work.
Another ditto here on both points.
I've basically got to re-build the entire 300D suspension pieces, and I feel mighty clueless going into this. I'll likely take a ton of pictures, most labeled: what's this?

Ahh, just go to the parts house OR favorite website supplier and get all the suspension parts, THEN climb up underneath and get real comfortable and start lookin' for the parts of the suspension!

'Course you might need some coaching on HOW they come apart!

Yeah,
When I told my co-workers about my project car and that I was going to work on it for my 2 month holiday they said "cool". When I told them I was doing suspension work they all snickered and started taking bets on stitches or better. I've got all or nothing (loss of limb or better or no stitches and I win).

Fix it up and let them take there Furds and Chebys to Pep boys and let them mess it up.

Then you will be the one laughing.

No Flex Pipe?

Noticed on one of the pics that theres no flex section on the down exhaust pipe. Just wondering if only 300Ds have those and 240's don't? or are they necessary to have.....?
