Changing 123 Tach Lead?

upon trying the "cigarette butt" trick quick fix for the tach. in actuality i didn't even get that far. when i unplugged the thing, the resin inside decomposed and fell out. thus necessitating the need to change the whole lead. so i got one. and i can't figure out how to change it without taking off some other parts.

any tricks on how to get this thing changed without having to pull the goll darn engine?

It sounds like you unplugged the wrong part.

If you are referring to replacing the TDC indicator, it is secured to the bracket by one nut. It's a little hard to get to; removing the vacuum pump would allow better access, but is not necessary.

You will have to remove the alternator belts and then used a 15/16 SAE (24mm) crows feet wrench attached to a small extension and breaker bar. It is very tight and you have to try different angles to get the breaker bar in but somehow I was able to do it.
