fan question

thanks for all youre answers of late. im new at this, and learning fast, thanks largely to the information provided by this forum.

anyhow, my possibly obvious question is this: should i be able to spin, by hand, the radiator fan? it seems to be totally seized up. its winter, so i dont know how much i'll need it at the moment, but im wondering if i might not need to either replace the whole thing, replace the clutch, or just take it apart and clean/lubricate it.

anyone?

Sounds like the clutch may have seized up. They can be real stiff when it's cold out.

How it it after the car has been run a bit?

A bad fan clutch or faulty t-stat can cause over heat issue, so be sure to watch the temps.

by the way, im talking about the aux. fan, in front of the radiator. in any event, its pretty solid there, and doesnt seem to loosen up much after the cars been running.

Those usually come on when freon temps get high during the summer. It is switched off of the dryer. It should be somewhat easy to turn by hand. You can test it by jumping 12v from the battery to it.

Should spin freely. If bound up, might be leaves etc. behind it, or more likely a toast motor.
