Klimaectomy?

I'd love to pull the cursed Klima in my 85 and replace it with manual controls for fan, heat and distribution. Is it possible to retrofit non-automatic controls from an earlier or lesser model like a 240?
Just in case it's an easy fix, here's the problem: My Klima will come on quick, roast you for ten minutes and then the heat quits. I just touched up a bunch of solder joints to fix a non-functioning fan. Did I not go far enough?

It is possible, but is a very involved procedure.

Is the initial heat and then lack a symptom? I thought a bad monovalve was all heat.

As for the tube, I'll check that. Would a dash mat cause problems?

Nope, your symptoms are consistent with a tear in the monovalve diaphragm.
Heat until the pressure builds up in the cooling system.

Holy moly, that's expensive. At what point can it no longer be rebuilt?

As I recall the mono-valve replacement diaphram wasn't real expensive. It is about a 10 minute repair.

There is a little square grille in the center of your dash.....it is where the Klima takes an air sample to adjust the temperature....if your dash mat is covering this your Klima will work erratically....
