Compression Test with Rockers off?
Car is 85 300d turbo with 260k with new timing chain, injectors and filters including tank screen. Blows blue smoke.
Absent the equipment to do a leak down test, would this be the next best thing to see if the compression problem is valves or pistons or rings? My numbers dry and wet are: 360, 420 260, 300 220, 220 100, 120 260, 320 |

Doing a compression check without the rockers won't tell you anything. You already know what you really need to check -- leakdown.

have you inspected the cam lobes on that cylinder yet?

Compression test should be done only after valves are adjusted when the engine is cold. Valves should be within specs, then you do a compression test. If Rockers are off how do you have the right spec/valve clearances between the lobe and the rocker arms?

You can't even do a compression test without the rockers.
No rockers means the valves can't open. If the valves can't open, the engine can't suck in any air to compress. |
