CHEAP oil change!!!!!

We recently had a new Chevy dealership open a few miles from work. Their management team decided to send an oil change coupon for $9.95 out to all the local businesses. The coupon has no expiration date, encourages people to duplicate it and it doesn't have a clause that excludes diesel's!!!! So I called them up and asked if they could get the 81 300SD in today and they said no problem. The service writer said they loose an average of $3 per car with the coupon. My total bill came up to $84.15 and with the coupon I paid a whopping $11.26!!! What a huge mistake......I bet they think twice before putting out any more coupons( or at least proof read them better)!!! Oh, they used Delvac and a Napa filter.

Yeah! It's nice to see that sometimes the consumer can win at a dealership!

There are some people that will buy a car while waiting for the oil change, so it can pay off for the dealer as well.

A new dealership needs customers. This promotion will generate a ton of new customers. If the customer is treated right and gets a good feeling about the dealership, where do you think he'll bring the vehicle for service in the future?

Now, allowing every model vehicle other than M/B is not the brightest move that they could have made.

With regard to the expiration of the coupon, I'll make book that they don't accept it at one year from today.........or sooner.

Cheap!

I dont know where the $84 came from, my MB dealer charges that for a genuine MB filter and synthetic oil plus a carwash.
I am shure the napa filter costs $2 and at $1 a quart for bulk oil, it is a good promo maybe they lost $3 for the labor costs involved. Dont forget Jiffy lube coupons
If anyone is interested they do root canal surgery in Metamoros Mexico, walk ins welcome, just across the border.

They are losing a lot more than that! A lot of shops offer cheap oil changes or transmission service as a way to get the vehicle in the door so they can sell more work. And there is nothing wrong with that, as long as the work is actually needed. And given the lack of routine maintenance that the typical car receives, they should have no trouble finding legitimate discrepancies.

Quite a few ears ago, I took advantage of a $8.99 automatic transmission service offer. I watched the mechanic remove the transmission pan, then take it into a back room. When he emerged, he showed me that the magnet in the pan was covered with metal filings, stating that my transmission needed an immediate overhaul. I felt the filings. They were bone dry. (In other words, he sprinkled the filings on the magnet when he took the pan into the back room.) When I declined the overhaul, the manager was summoned. He explained how lucky I was that they caught the problem just in time; said I probably would not make it home if I did not get the overhaul. Apparently he was wrong. I sold the car 60k miles later and never had the first problem with the transmission.

It was quite obvious that their motive was to turn every $8.99 service job into an overhaul. (Upselling, as it is now called.) And the real tragedy is that folks probably did not even get an overhaul when they paid for one.

It's called mark-up. It's a thing businesses do. Without it, they would not be in business.

To let a Chevy mechanic do an oil change on SD can cost $600, they did that to friends SD, overtightened the two studs holding the oil filter cap and just pulled out both bolts from the cast aluminum housing.
Oooooopppps sorry.
