Ticking sound when running or accelerating

Ok..

The engine is making a pinging or ticking sound when running idle and sometimes upon acceleration. It just started out of the blue. Had my oil and transmission oil filters and new oil at my mechs and next day it started..

Any ideas?

Mahalo!

Sorry, I gota ask, but....you did check the engine oil level?
"nailing" can be caused by low compression, a bad injector, or pre chamber. Do a search using "nailing"

I check the oil pretty often

She has a small oil leak from the head gasket I am having fixed while on xmas vacation.

Compression seems fine too. Thanks!!!!!

Does the 81 300D have hydraulic lifters? Sounds kind of like my ticky lifters that I ended up having replaced, but that's on my 87 300D. Maybe the new oil you had put in is a different weight than your last batch, and it's not getting into one of the lifters, causing it to stick? Just a guess. Of course, if the 617 doesn't have the same lifters then my idea wouldn't make sense. Or it might not make sense anyway. I try. :P
