Ebay: 1984 300d Euro Parts car including 5 speed manual

Here is a 1984 300d Euro parts car with, according to the seller, has a motor with only 55,000 miles on it and includes a 5 speed manual. Seller states that the car is too rusty to restore but engine is good.

I do have to state that the typing style on his ad gives me a headache reading it!

the seller is probably a little slimey. from the ad. the car will start right up as soon as you reassemble it. right. more likely it was partly disassembled chasing a problem and the cost of the problem stifled the job. so i would assume engine trouble. the tranny is likely good. if it is truly a five speed it is probably worth 800 to 1000 just for that. the rest of the car looks to be junk.

if i wanted a five speed i would be interested.

i dont particularly need one and would be interested if it were close enough to drive over and look at it.

i even would be tempted to buy it sight unseen but would be wary of going to pick it up and finding it is not what is represented in some way that would make it undesirable. and a thousand mile trip for nothing. from the ad this is the smell that i am getting.

could be a great deal though.

no feedback

The seller has no feedback, but I know I've seen auctions in the past with this style of description....which tells me he changed his name.....probably due to negative feedback.

Be wary. But the 5-speed is tempting

I sent him a question about if it's 4 forward and 1 reverse or 5 forward speeds.

I, too, would want to be sure.

in the top portion "you sent PAYPAL payment ..and you are NOT SATISFIED... your payment is FINAL -NO REFUND."

in the bottom portion "BRING the whole thing back ..WHAT EVER you paid -you welcome FULL REFUND"

seems kinda phishy to me

That appears to be a U.S. spec 240D speedo (I don't know which speedo the U.S. non-turbo 300D had, but the 300D turbos have 125 mph speedos). Also note that the speedo has shift dots for a 4 speed.

I saw that yesterday but didn't want to be responsible for posting it here given the dubious nature of the auction. The seller has an earlier Ebay ID but I can't find any feedback associated with it.
He says the engine has 66k on it yet the speedo says 88k. Perhaps the speedo has been switched out, accounting for the 4spd shift points. The engine certainly doesn't look like it only has 66k on it, even for a NY car. I think it has to be a Euro if it's an 84 without a turbo.

One of my turbo wagons has an original 85 mph speedo... and there were turbo diesels available outside the usa. We might say "euro" version- but what it translates to most of the time is "non-usa" version.

True, but only the 82 U.S. spec turbo had a 85 mph speedo. I replaced mine with a 125 mph unit from a 83 or 84 300D. This car is a non-turbo, as you can see in the photos.

100 is about what a 300d na will do. so that seems fine.

the five speed part seems iffy.

i would have to sit in it and shift it through the five gears before i would invest in it. and look at the tranny case to see that nothing is hanging out the side of it....so to speak.

i still say the motor prolly has problems. the story about selling parts off it seems fishy to me.
