Clicking Relay
Good Evening To All,
This is my first post on this site, thanks in advance to all who reside here! I have a 1984 300SD which recently developed a clicking noise which sounds like a relay maybe? The sound appears to be coming from the passenger side under-dash area or maybe in the passenger side console? While the car is running, it seems to be continuous. After the vehicle has been turned off the clicking will cease shortly thereafter. I noticed that once the car has been turned off, if I open any door the clicking begins again and will stop after about 20 seconds or so after the door has been closed. I have only had this car a couple of weeks and this was not happening when I first got it, so I don't know much about the car and what could be happening here. I have done some internet searching and it seems this has happened to others as well but I have not found any definitive answer as to what the problem may be. I am hoping that someone here may have some insight! Thanks Keefer |

Possibly climate control
Inside the ACC controller (pushbuttons) are relays and will vary greatly with mode selection and temp. Are all of the climate control settings working? If so, then it is probably just doing its job.

Resolved clicking relay
Hello All,
I was fortunate today, I took my 300SD to a place in Boise called "Eurosport" and a technician listened to my clicking relay and found it to be the Alarm system (I didn't even know I had one duh). There is a black plastic piece under the front passenger side floor matt up by the firewall and under it is a small metal housed unit with a wire harness going to it, it was clicking away. Apparently a new unit costs $450 ! I do not need it and so we unplugged the harness which stopped the clicking. The tech said that on the older ones like mine that it would be ok to leave it unhooked because it is not tied to anything critical to the normal operation of the vehicle. He said that on a newer one that would be a problem since it is tied to the ignition etc. So anyway, no charge, no clicking, no alarm (must not have been working right anyway). Hope anyone else with similar problems may find this helpful. Keefer |
