Can I change oil pan on 1996 e300D without pulling engine?
Need to replace pan. Anyone done this without pulling the engine? I have a 30' x 50' Morton building and have pulled the engine on my F350 Powerstroke, put 2 timing belts on my 2003 Jetta TDI and 2 TB's on my 97 Passat TDI so please dont concern yourself with ability, tools or space. I am looking for "have done this" input as opposed to printed manual procedures as I have also replace the pans on Dodge cummins 4x4's and service procedure indicates engine needs to come out. In fact Fords says Powerstroke engines need to come out and put on a stand upside down in the factory service material to change the pan gasket and replace main seals...

Sorry Pweber I don't have any first-hand experience with replacing the oil pan.. I do have MB instructions for doing so, and unfortuantely it does require removing the engine. You sound like you have the experience to complete the job (I certainly don't )....if you like I can send/post the instructions but I can't provide any tips from personal experience.

There sure isn't a lot of extra room down there, but I'm also curious as to whether this can be done.
I know that you don't want to say, but come on. What happened to your pan? |
