Engine wont shut off. Please help!!!
I know this has been mentioned before, but just today my car started doing it. Usually it would shut off when I took the key out about 1 of every 3 times, and the other times it would just idle for about 30 secs before shutting off, but today it started to just run after the key was out and not stop, making me have to push the stop leaver. I looked for vac leaks under the hood but couldnt find any. Does anyone have an idea on where to start looking, because its very annoying. Please help if u have any info, it would be very appreciated.

My '82 did the same thing. I ended up shutting off some vac lines, with end plugs, that feed to the firewall, the door locks would not manually, or otherwise lock. Now the locks work manually, the car shuts off, I'm happy. You will need to experiment stopping vac to various lines, with the key off, and engine running. At least that's what I did. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Before you check the rest of the car, check the shutoff actuator diaphram with a vacuum pump to see if its ruptured.

Look for a brown vacuum line running to the vacuum shut off switch on the aft end of your injector pump, with the car running apply vacuum to that line (suck on it). If the car does NOT shut down the switch is bad. If it shuts down then you have a vacuum leak elsewhere. Post back and include which car you have.

alright. I tested vacuum at idle in the system, its about 20 inches HG. I unplugged the IP shutoff line and stuck the mighty vac on it and pumped it twice and low and behold the car shuts off. I restarted it and then turned the key off and disconnected the vacuum line that comes from the ignition lock and stuck the mighty vac on it. I only got about 4-5 inches HG. Could my lock setup be bad.
BTW its an 83 123 with a 617 turbo. |

I have the same issue as you do. I have replaced all of the underhood components, the master lever in the driver's side door, and am going to start searching the trunk lock and fuel door systems next. The locks don't like being operated manually; they seem to grudgingly work.

Not fimiliar with ignition vac line, can't help there. The locks work off a diaphram, if the air is not allowed to move elsewhere, when locking or unlocking, in the system, the lock mechanism cannot move. I have an open check valve under hood to solve.
